OBITUARY: Mrs. Asa Butler passed quietly out of life at her home here Tuesday morning Oct. 9, 1928, at the age of nearly 83 years. . Eliza Ripley was born in Pinhook, Ohio, Feb. 6, 1846, afterwards coming with her parents to Davis County, Iowa, and later settling on a farm near Flood Creek Butler County, Ia. When she grew to young womanhood she was united in marriage to John Umphreys and to this union thirteen children were born, four of whom survive. They are Mrs. Homer Carle of Lames Springs; Mrs. Emma Bumgardner of Flood Creek; Harry Umphreys, Charles City and Mrs. Bill Mathews of Nashua. . Her husband died in 1910 and on May 15, 1912 she was united in marriage to Asa Butler, who survives. . She was a kind and loving mother and a faithful companion to her husband who has cared for her tenderly through a long illness. . Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 2:30 p.m. at the Little Brown Church, Rev. J.L. McComson officiating, and the body will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery."
