Description	:	The Index Journal (Greenwood, SC) Monday, 30 Nov 1942 Abbeville, Nov 30 - Mrs Eliza Thomson Highsmith, 63, died here Sunday morning at 9 o'clock at the home on Magazine Street after a long illness. Mrs Highsmith was the wife of T L Highsmith and a daughter of the late John Allen and Lucy Calvert Thomson, both of prominent families in old Abbeville. She spent her childhood here and at her marriage, moved to Shoals Junction, where she often served as an agent at the small railroad station. Mrs Highsmith was the wife of T L Highsmith and a daughter of the late John Allen and Lucy Calvert Thomson, both of prominent families in old Abbeville. She spent her childhood here and at her marriage, moved to Shoals Junction, where she often served as an agent at the small railroad station. When Mr Highsmith was transferred to the Southern at Abbeville, returned here and had made her home here since. Mrs Highsmith succeeded her mother, Mrs Lucy Calvert Thomson as President of the local chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy and has done much to sponsor the cause. Her last active work was the entertainment of the district conference last spring. Survived by her husband and children: Thomas L Highsmith Jr, Portsmouth, VA; Mrs C L Lynch, Ware Shoals; Miss Eleanor Highsmith, Anderson; John Allen Highsmith, US Army; Miss Eliza and Miss Clara Highsmith, Abbeville. One brother, Thomas P Thomson, Augusta, GA and one grandchild, Doris Lynch. Burial in Long Cane Cemetery.
