CONNOLE DIES TODAY IN CITY HOSPITAL - Rites Saturday Morning In Catholic Church Of DeWitt _______________________________________________ Mrs. Elizabeth Connole, 80, life resident of this vicinity, died in Mercy hospital, Clinton at 12:30 o'clock (midnight) this Thursday morning, May 24, 1945 after a lingering illness. The body was removed to the Hanrahan funeral home of DeWitt and will repose there until Saturday morning when funeral services and requiem Mass will be conducted in St. Joseph's church at 9:30 o'clock with the Rev. John Moriarty in charge. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. OBITUARY - Elizabeth Kelly, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kelly, was born on a farm near DeWitt September 1, 1864. She was graduated from the DeWitt high school and taught school near Grand Mound. On October 20, 1886, she was married to James J. Connole, who preceded her in death in 1924. Surviving are two sons, Lionel V. and Ralph E., four granddaughters, Mrs. Raymond Griebel of Davenport, Ruth, Nadine and Marg El Connole of DeWitt and two great-grandchildren, Jimmie and Bobby Griebel of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Connole was a member of St. Joseph's church and enrolled in the Dominican; also was a member of St. Veronica league, of the Alter and Rosary society and of St. Francis Xavier guild. Mr.s Connole was one of DeWitt's pioneer beauty shop operators continuing with several of her patrons until recently. She gained her ability not by any special training but by her artistic sense, her deft and kindly manner and her great desire to be the creator of beauty and helpfulness in the world about her. She was deeply imbued with a spirit of motherly sacrifice which she expended upon her children and grandchildren regardless of their maturity and her increasing physical fraility. On this Thursday night, her two granddaughters, Ruth and Nadine, will graduate from the DeWitt high school where she was a member of the commencement class many years ago and an event which she had expressed a deep desire to see.
