Read More	SCHELKOPF, ELIZABETH ANN—Elizabeth Ann Schelkopf was born to Floyd and Thelma Abbott on Aug. 14, 1930, in Fairmont. She passed away Nov. 22, 2004 at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 74 years, three months and eight days. Betty was an only child. She attended grade school and graduated from Fairmont High School with the Class of 1947. One of her favorite activities was helping her father on his rural mail route and skating at the Fairmont roller rink. Betty attended the Lincoln Beauty School and was employed in Crete and Geneva. She met Bob at a dance in Bruning. Their first date was on her 19th birthday. They were married Feb. 8, 1953. In 2003, they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They were blessed with two children, Sherri Lea and Robert Shane. The small-town young bride adapted to her new role as a farm wife in a hurry. She soon became an outstanding cook and short-order chef. Betty did the gardening, raised baby chicks, and it was a necessity that she learn to drive the farm truck. Betty was a devoted wife and mother. The family attended the Shickley United Methodist Church until moving to Geneva in March of 1967. At that time, they joined the Geneva United Methodist Church. She enjoyed serving her church through the UMW, Circle and committees. Special interests were family and friends. She especially liked working crossword puzzles, reading and travel. Their trip to Greece was her favorite. She also had many other fond memories of trips to Florida, Texas and Wisconsin with family and dear friends. Annual skiing trips to Colorado with the children and all the family were treasured times long remembered. She will be remembered by many as a gracious, kind, loving and compassionate human being. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and son. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert; daughter Sherri; grandchildren Jonathan and Shayna; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, Nov. 27, from the United Methodist church in Geneva, with Pastor Pat Kelley officiating. Sue Kleinschmidt accompanied Delwin Myers who sang, “How Great Thou Art” and “On Eagles Wings” and the congregation who sang “Hymn of Promise. Casket bearers were Jonathan Miller, Scott Schelkopf, Mike Kempf, Ronald Labenz and Charles Schelkopf. Honorary bearers were Shayna Miller and Mark Wythers. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal December 1st, 2004 page 11.
