Davidson Elizabeth West was born on Dec. 10, 1832, at Dayton, Ohio. Her grandfather Elam was a soldier in the revolutionary. He owned a plantation in Virginia and kept a number of slaves, but voluntarily set them free before the Civil war and settled in Ohio. When the civil war broke out, her brother, J. E. West, now of St. Cloud, Minn., joined the army of the north and served his country as captain of his company, while at the same time her brother Hiram, a resident of the south, joined the southern army and was captain of his company. When a child of twelve years her parents died and she went to live with an uncle, Dr. Foraker of Piqua, Ohio. At an early age she identified herself with the Baptist church, her parents being devoted members. In 1853 she came to Iowa and taught school for two years in the vicinity of Red Oak. On May 31, 1855, she was married to Robert A. Davidson at the home of John Moffett, Red Oak. This wedded life lasted 55 years, over forty of them being spent on the farm where she went as a bride. She leaves to mourn her loss the companion of these long years of wedded life, and 7 children, Ella Crow, Anna Maley, C. E. Davidson, Jas. R. Davidson, F. F. Davidson, Sadie Bartley ad Mable Moffett. She was one of the charter members of the United Presbyterian church of Stanwood, Iowa. She was a godly woman, full of faith and prayer, tender-hearted, thoughtful and unselfish. When vitality was very low she thought of those attending upon her and urged them to rest. Her prayers were answered as to her body and mind. The busy fruitful life was ended. She had been called to another sphere of activity. Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. The funeral services were held at the home April second at 10 o'clock and at the United Presbyterian church at 10:30. A large concourse of sorrowing friends gathered to pay their tribute to the memory of one whom they loved and cherished. The services were conducted by Rev. McQuiston, assisted by Revs. McConnell of Gardner, Iowa, and Sawhill of Washington, Iowa. Interment was in the Stanwood cemetery.
