Description	:	Elizabeth "Betsy" Plymale Rowe (85), born 1791 in Botetourt ( now Giles) Virginia was the dau. of Anthony Wayne Plymale I, and Elizabeth Bethia Bowen and one of at least twelve or thirteen children. Her parents were married Jan 11., 1789. Her father is buried at the Porter Family cemetery, Gallia, Gallia Co, Ohio. Elizabeth 'Betsy' Plymale met and married Joseph Rowe, son of James Rowe Sr. and Elizabeth Tracey as he was her neighbor. ( The Rowe and Plymale families were neighbors.) Elizabeth 'Betsy' Plymale met and married Joseph Rowe, son of James Rowe Sr. and Elizabeth Tracey as he was her neighbor. ( The Rowe and Plymale families were neighbors.) Their lands were adjoining in the New River Settlement, Spruce Run, Giles County, Virginia. Working for a while saving money to buy supplies and a canoe, Joseph and Elizabeth Plymale Rowe left Giles County, Virginia by river. They were very adventurous. They had nine children: Their first child Polly was born Dec. 22, 1812 in Greenbrier County, Virginia. The next we know of Joseph and Betsy Rowe were in Henry County, Kentucky where they had their second daughter Margaret "Peggy" Rowe,Sept 15, 1814. Bertha (Bathia) was also born in Kentucky, probably Henry County. Rice Rowe was born in Crawford County, Indiana in 1819. Caroline, James Plymale Rowe, Virginia and Elthanen Winchester Rowe were all born in Indiana, probably in Crawford or Perry County, Indiana. They left Indiana and were in Knox County, Illinois by 1829 . By the spring of 1830, Joseph, was one of the first settlers in Rio Twp., Knox County, Illinois. He made claim to section 33, in timber. In 1831, trouble began between the Indians and the white settlers. The settlers left their homes and moved to Fort Aggie, located in Henderson County, Illinois. In April of 1832, the Sioux and Fox Indians led by Chief Black Hawk came across the Mississippi River, and the Black Hawk War began. Joseph Rowe and several other Rowe men fought in the Black Hawk War. The women and children remained in Fort Aggie where it was safer. He died 16 Nov 1864 died Cameron, Warren, IL. Elizabeth and Joseph had nine children. 1. Polly Rowe was born Dec. 22, 1812 in Greenbrier County, Virginia. d. Feb. 18 1907 Johnson Co, Iowa 2. Margaret "Peggy" Rowe, born Sept 15, 1814 Henry Co. Kentucky d. Feb. 6, 1905 Warren Co, Illinois 3. Bathia Rowe b. 1815 in Kentucky 4. Rice Rowe b. 1819 Crawford Co, Indiana d. Aug. 24, 1863 in the Civil War. 5. Caroline Rowe b.
