A cloud of sorrow swept over St. Libory and community Wednesday at 8 p.m. when Grandma Kaufman died. Although not expected every one felt they had lost a sincere friend; the children who survived her, a devoted mother, and her many grandchildren will greatly miss Grandma as everyone was welcome at her home. She was an unrivaled example of Christianity through life and especially during her last illness and died prepared to meet her Lord and Master. Elizabeth Samuel (sic) was born in Luxemberg, February 1, 1831. She came to America when nine years of age, and was married in 1850 at St. Nicholas, Wis., to Nicholas Kaufman. To this union eight children were born, Barbara, Catherine, Margaret, Peter, Susan, John and Nicholas, one child passing away in infancy. Surviving her are Peter of Grand Island; Susan and Nicholas, of St. Libory, and John of Springview. She was the grandmother of 33 children and the great grandmother of 38. In 1866, with her husband, she moved to Ramsey, Ill., and in 1883 to Nebraska, being among the St. Libory pioneers. In 1893 Nicholas Kaufman, her husband, died since which time she has been cared for by her daughter, Susan. She was laid to rest in the St. Libory cemetery on August 14.
