Obituary for her husband Balser Pullin Highland Recorder January 24, 1913 Balser H. Pullin, the last survivor of the Loftus Pullin family was born Jan 22, 1828 and died Dec, 29, 1912, aged 84 years, 11 mos. and 7 days. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Martha A. Dever, of Rockingham, who died in June, 1870. To this union were born three children, all of whom are living. His second wife was Miss Elizabeth C. Lamb, who survives him. They had eight children, all living but one. He also has twenty-eight grandchildren. He was badly wounded during the war between the states, and the greater part of his lower jaw was removed. He was a man of great energy and vitality. Just six weeks prior to his death, he fell, breaking his hip bone, from which he never recovered. He was a member of the church of the Brethren for 22 years. His remains were buried in the McKendree cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Josiah Beverage. Informant: Lofus Lamb Birth Location: Highland Highland Recorder May 29, 1942 APPLIES FOR PENSION Mrs. Elizabeth Lamb Pullin of McDowell community, widow of the late Balsar Pullin, veteran of the War Between the States, and who is 95 years of age, had made application for a Confederate pension. She was married to Mr. Pullin in the year 1873 and he died many years ago. This is the first time that she has asked for, the small pension that is given to the widows of Confederate veterans. She advanced years, and the board of which , Mrs. R. C. Jones is the chairman, was glad to give its approval to the application of this good woman who is held in high esteem by her many friends and neighbors and held deserving of the small allowance.
