Description	:	Elizabeth "Sis" Huls, 88, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, Iowa. Monsignor Richard Zenk officiated. Burial followed in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Akron. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren. Elizabeth Cecelia Huls was born November 10, 1920 on the family farm West of Merrill, Iowa in Johnson Township to John and Anna (Dondelinger) Orban. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. She attended country school near her home. She was united in marriage to Alfred G. Huls on January 30, 1940 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, Iowa. Alfred and Sis farmed near Akron, Iowa for many years. Together, they are the parents of three children, Norman, Karen, and Merle. Alfred passed away August 9, 2005. Sis was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron and a member of Catholic Daughter's of America. She enjoyed crocheting, and in her earlier years, gardening and canning. She also enjoyed baking and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Church and family were always a very important part of Sis's life. She loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her children, Norman Huls and his wife Sue of Merrill, Iowa, Karen Oetken and her husband Loren of Akron, Iowa, and Merle Huls and his wife Sue of Le Mars, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Chris Lesko and his wife Cindy, Shannon Lesko and his wife Julie, Carey Blomberg, Tom Huls and his special friend Brooke Klemme, Tyler Huls and his wife Tina, Angela Taylor and her husband Paul, Amy Oetken, and Tonya Oetken; 8 great-grandchildren: a sister: Marcie Huls of Le Mars, Iowa; a brother: Frank Orban and his wife Vi of Le Mars, Iowa; a sister in law: Lorraine Onnen of Grand Island, Nebraska; a former daughter-in-law: Donna Galati Huls; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; 4 sisters: Clara Wilmes, Mamie Harms, Kathryn Schipper, and Tina Feller; 4 brothers: Joe Orban and 3 brothers in infancy, Nick, Alfred, and John Orban; and a grandson: Todd Huls in 1995.
