SIBLINGS Julia Sullivan PA older sister Mary Daley Carrol Daily Times Herald - Tuesday , August 5th, 1952 - Death came to Mrs. Elizabeth Kennebeck, 84, widow of George Kennebeck, at 5:30 p.m. yesterday at St. Anthony hospital, where she had been a patient since May 30. She had been in failing health several years. Death was caused by a heart condition. Active in club work until her declining yean, Mrs. Rennebeck was considered the dean of Carroll clubwomen. She was a charter member and one of the founders of the Newman Study club, which she had also served as president. She was a past president of the Clio club and past president of the Carroll comity division, Iowa Federation of Women's clubs. A charter membership in the Book-of-the-Month club was held by Mrs. Kennebeck. Funeral services are set for 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's church. Requiem mass will be read by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. P.T. Lynch. Burial will be in the family lot in the Carroll cemetery. The body is resting at the Sharp Funeral home, where members of the Newman Study club will recite the rosary at 7:30 tonight. Msgr. Lynch will lead the rosary at 8 p.m. tomorrow. Mrs. Kennebeck was a member of St. Joseph's church and the Immaculata Guild of the parish. Born Feb. 6, 1868, at Bel Air, Md., Mrs. Kennebeck was the former Elizabeth Gleason, daughter of Dennis and Mary Gleason. In 1876, when she was eight years old, she came to Carroll county with her mother and settled on an acreage west of Carroll. They moved into Carroll later. After attending the old Carroll Normal college, Mrs. Kennebeck taught rural schools in this vicinity imtil her marriage, which took place June 30, 1887, at St. Joseph's church here. The Rev, Fr. Nacke officiated. In June, 1937, Mr. and Mrs. Kennebeck celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Kennebeck leaves three sons and one daughter: Gen. George R. Kennebeck, U.S. air force dental corps. Silver Springs, Md.: Col. Marvin E. Kennebeck, U.S. air force dental corps, Chevy Chase, Md.; Dr. Merlin J. Kennebeck, Muskegon, Mich., and Mrs. Tom J. Finegan (Irma), Carroll; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Kathleen, who died en route to Europe ss a Red Cross worker in 1918 during World war I. Mrs. Kennebeck was the last of her family. One of her sisters was Mrs. Mary Daley of Carroll. Besides participation in church and club work, Mrs. Kennebeck had been active in the democratic party. She had served as a Carroll county committee woman.
