BEN RUMMEL Was 74 Years Old and Lived in This City About 46 Years.—Leaves Husband and Six Daughters Funeral services for Mrs. Ben Rummel, who died at the Hawarden hospital about 9:30 last Thursday morning, were held at the .Associated, church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, with Rev. T. H. Harding in charge. Mrs. Mildred Anderson sang two beautiful solos, "Abide With Me"" and "In the Garden." Mrs. Rummel's six sons-in-law acted as pall bearers. Burial was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Mrs. Rummel had been in failing health for the-past several years and on Dec. 31st she suffered two heart attacks. She was removed to the Hawarden hospital and it was believed that she was improving so her cleath was unexpected. The nurse had administered to her and was still in the room, when she asked her to open the window, as she was short of breath. The nurse immediately opened the window but when she turned to assist Mrs. Rummel, she had already passed away. Elizabeth Dorothy Sassman was born in Germany July 8, 1862; and passed away Jan. 14, 1937, having attained the age of 74 years, 6 months and 6 days. She came to the United States with her parents when she was seven years old and it took three months for them to reach America. Her family located at Waterloo, Iowa, but they lived there but a short time when they came to the Alcester vicinity where she grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage with Ben Rummel Aug. 19,1891. After coming to Hawarden she united with the Congregational church which later with Presbyterian Church was merged to form the Associated Church.She was also a member of the Ladies' Aid of this church and of the American Legion Auxiliary. Besides her devoted husband, she is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Bertha Belkey, Alcester; and Mrs. Margaret Miller, Mrs. Cora Burket, Mrs. Emma Vernon, Mrs. Lottie Van Sickle and Mrs. Ella Anderson of Hawarden. One son, Harry W. Rummel, preceded her in death in May, 1933. She also leaves thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Rummel was one of Hawarden's best beloved women. She was ever active, as long as her strength permitted, in the affairs of her church, but it was in her home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, that she found her greatest joy. Her first consideration was always the welfare and comfort of her family and no task was too arduous for her to undertake if she might thereby ease the way for her loved ones. She was friendly,neighborly and a wonderful wife and mother and there are many outside the family circle who grieve at her passing and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family. Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Peter Friess of Fon du Lac, Wis.; Mrs. Ed. Norby of Sioux Falls and Adolph .Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mueller and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Anderson of Alcester.
