Description	:	Mrs. Elizabeth E. Bitzer, 82, mother of the first Muscatine soldier to be killed in action during the last World war, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday in her home, 513 East Fourth street, after an eight day illness with complications. She was born in Lisbon, Ia., May 30, 1858, the daughter of Christian H. and Nancy A. Hoover Neidig, and has been a resident of Muscatine since 1879. She was married to Martin H. She was born in Lisbon, Ia., May 30, 1858, the daughter of Christian H. and Nancy A. Hoover Neidig, and has been a resident of Muscatine since 1879. She was married to Martin H. Bitzer, April 13, 1879, in Mt. Vernon. A charter member of both the American Legion auxiliary and the W.C.T.U., Mrs. Bitzer also was a member of the United Brethren church and the Royal Neighbors lodge. Surviving are four daughters, Clara B. Luckhardt, of Milan, Ill., Mrs. Mabel B. Yeggy and Pearl R. Bitzer, both of Muscatine, and Mrs. Hazel M. Vanatta, of San Jose, Calif.; and one brother, Henry E. Neidig, of Los Angeles, Calif. Her husband, two sons, including Edward H. Bitzer, for whom the local American Legion post is named, one sister and a brother preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the George M. Wittich Funeral Home, with the Rev. A. L. Brandstetter, pastor of the United Brethren church, officiating.
