MARION - Miss Elizabeth Davis, eldest daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Davis and Mrs. Jenkins Davis, died very suddenly about 8 o'clock Wednesday morning, March 20, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Will Stackhouse. Miss Davis had been in ill health for some time, but had not been confined to her bed and sat up talking cheerfully with the family until 11 o'clock Tuesday night. A slight noise was heard in the bathroom adjoining her room, brought a member of the family to investigate and it was found that after walking into the bathroom she had fallen and expired as she was being laid on her bed. Miss Lizzie, as she was familiarly known, was born in the Centenary section of Marion County. But had been a resident of the town for many years. A woman of high Christian character, of sterling womanly traits, she had the respect and esteem of all who knew her. A lifelong and thoroughly consistent member of the Methodist Church, her funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Stackhouse, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. L. L. Bedenbaugh, at 3:30 Thursday afternoon, and interment was made in the Palmer Cemetery below Marion where several generations of her family lie sleeping. Besides her sister, she is survived by three brothers, James Clement Davis of Centenary, Robert Lee Davis and Marvin Wightman Davis, of Marion; and one stepbrother, H. Grady Davis of Columbia. Being a descendant of the pioneer settlers of Marion County, she leaves a wide family connection. Six nephews bore her coffin to the grave. A lover of flowers, her bier was covered by many beautiful spring blossoms, the last offer from kinsmen and friends. Published in The State, March 26, 1929
