The passing of Mrs. Cousins removes one of the most beloved women of this place. Her entire life was filled with kindly ministrations and her death brings a great sorrow to the large family she has reared. Mrs. Cousin's maiden name was Miss Elizabeth Gibbs and she was born in Wedmore, Somersetshire, England in 1848. She came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gibbs to the United States when she was 8 years of age. The family settled on a farm south of Earlville when this county was a vast wilderness. She was first wedded to James Hunt, who passed away in 1889. To this union were born fifteen children, fourteen of whom survive. Robert, James, Darley, Sidney, Henry and Lester, all successful farmers of this vicinity and George and William prominent merchants of Earlville. The daughters are Mrs. Nellie Sperring, Mrs. Alice Goranson of Winnebago county, Mrs. Phoebe Malvin of Belle Fouche, South Dakota; Mrs. Edith Arnold, Mrs. Elsie Tietge and Mrs. Eva Staehle. In 1898 Mrs. Hunt married Thomas Cousins, a native of England, who came to this country in early life. Mr. Cousins passed away in September 1900. Besides her immediate family she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. H. J. Vanfleet and Mrs Edward Bisgrove, and two brother, George and John Gibbs, all of Earlville. Mrs. Cousins was a remarkable woman in many ways. She reared a large family of children and lived to see them fulfil her fondest hopes. She was one of the largest land holders in this county and managed her extensive interests with the strictest integrity and unusual business ability. She was kind hearted and generous and her daily life was one of true Christian uprightness. She was a regular attendant at the Congregational church and was a liberal donor to every good cause. She was a devoted mother and kept in close association with her entire family. In her beautiful home she reigned as a queen, and with advancing years her children and grand-children became more and more devoted to her, and their love was fully reciprocated by her. When the final summons came there was no fear in her heart, only a deep peace and she passed away leaving to her children the sweet memory of a devoted mother and to all within the circle of her acquaintance the loving memory of an unselfish friend. The family has the deepest sympathy of Many friends in their great sorrow. The funeral will be held at the Congregational church on Tuesday afternoon.
