The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Krogmeier occurred at her residence in Washington township, at 3:15 a.m., Friday, May 20, 1898, old age being the cause of her death. Mrs. Krogmeier was born near Dellbruch, Westphalia, Germany, Jan. 1, 1812. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Helling. The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Krogmeier occurred at her residence in Washington township, at 3:15 a.m., Friday, May 20, 1898, old age being the cause of her death. Mrs. Krogmeier was born near Dellbruch, Westphalia, Germany, Jan. 1, 1812. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Helling. In the year 1836 she was united in marriage with Mr. Stephen Krogmeier, who departed this life October 24, 1889. In 1852 she with her husband crossed the ocean in a sailing vessel, landing at New Orleans, from whence she came directly to Fort Madison, settling on a farm near the city. Eight sons were born to them, of whom four survive, namely: Anton, Barney and Joseph, of this city, and George who still lives in Germany; thirty grandchildren, one brother, Theodore Helling of this city. Mrs. Krogmeier was well known and highly respected by all who knew her. The funeral took place at the Sacred Heart church at 9:00 o'clock Monday morning, May 23, and was largely attended, friends of the deceased being present from far and near. Rev. Hoffman conducted the ceremonies.
