Mrs. Thomas had been living with her children in Wyoming for several years, until a stroke of paralysis overcame her. Her son, Dolph, accompanied the casket to Villisca and was at the home for the funeral. The deceased was nearing the 90th year mark of her life at the time of her passing to the great beyond. She has a cousin in Clarinda, Henry Wilfley, but due to the bad roads he was unable to attend the funeral. Clarinda Herald (Clarinda, Iowa), Monday, March 28, 1927, p. 3 DALLAS – Mrs. J. B. Marsell attended the funeral of Mrs. Sylvester Thomas at the Butler Hicks home in northeast Dallas Wednesday afternoon. The remains of Mrs. Thomas were brot here from Cody, Wyo. She was aged 88 years, 10 months and 8 days. Mrs. Thomas and her husband immigrated from Ohio to a farm two miles south of Hawleyville in 1848. She is survived by six children. Interment was at Guss. Clarinda Herald (Clarinda, Iowa), Thursday, March 31, 1927, p. 12 Elizabeth Jane Thomas – Old times in Page County are recalled by the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Thomas, who passed away March 18th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. J. Markin, at Cody, Wyoming. The body was brought to the old home for burial in the cemetery near Gus, services being held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. B. Hicks of New Market, conducted by Rev. Osborn, interment being made beside the grave of her husband who passed away five years ago. It was back in 1848 that her husband S. [ylvester] S. [hepherd] Thomas, came to Iowa, settling near Hawleyville, where the Civil War found them and Mr. Thomas enlisted serving three years in the U. S. Army, while the wife and three babies staid at home. Later nine more children came to bless the home, making an even dozen, of whom six are still living, five being resident in the west, the mother being nearly 89 years of age at time of passing away.
