The Citizen Howard, Kansas Thursday, December 28, 1899 page 1 Obituary. Elizabeth Jane Jay, departed this life October 23, 1899, aged 34 years, 8 months and 27 days. Died from complicated diseases, affection of the throat, lungs and liver. Sister Jay was born in Illinois, January 26, 1865, came to Kansas with her parents, Thos. Drake and wife, in 1872, was married to William Jay December 24, 1883. She embraced the Lord Jesus as her personal savior in 1888, and united with the Baptist church. She was afterward one of the charter members of the Elk Valley Baptist church, where she lived an exemplary Christian until called to join the Church Triumphant in our Father's house above. She made her religion more of practice than precept, doing good to all. Through all her sickness she had great patience and resignation. She leaves a husband and two little girls, Carrie and Ona, aged 14 and 9, aged parents, three brothers, and many friends who will sadly miss her. The husband loses a comforting wife and the children a loving mother. Grieve not bereaved ones, as one without hope; list to the gracious promises of Christ; "I even I, am He that comforteth you. Again, "My grace is sufficient for thee, even in this great affliction; I will never leave nor forsake thee. Many loved ones have gone on before and we believe she is there, for she said she had a vision of Heaven and saw her boy Willie there. Oh, the happy greeting! A few hours before she breathed her last, she called the relatives and friends that were there to her bedside and asked them to meet her in Heaven. As she bade each one good bye she plead with the unsaved to prepare to meet God, and meet her in Heaven. Father, mother, brothers, are you ready? have you a title clear to the mansions above? Jesus severs the chain here, but link by link it is being united up above, resplendent in sanctified brightness. Brother Steven Miller's words of comfort were heard by the many relatives and friends that gathered with sad hearts to pay the last tribute of respect to our loved one.
