The Quincy Daily Journal, Thursday, February 07, 1895; Page: 5 —Mrs. William H. Eakle died at the home of her daughter Mrs. W. B. Davis near this city last Sunday morning, Feb. 8, 1895, at 1:30 of paralysis, following lagrippe, after a week's illness. She was in her 79th year. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. S. Todd, after which the remains were interred in the Masonic cemetery in this city. She was the widow of the late Wm. H. Eakle of near Oak Dale. Her son, Henry Eakle and wife of Monroe City were here and attended the funeral. She was a member of the M. E. Church, South. The Shelby County Herald, Shelbyville, Missouri, February 11, 1895 Note: Shelby County records have misinterpreted Eliza's last name as Bennett. This is probably due to the handwriting. If one looks closely at what has been interpreted as Bennett, you can make Pennell out of it. The family records and oral tradition have been preserved to verify Eliza's last name is actually Pennell. —Mrs. S. J. Eakle, relict of the late Wm. Eakle, died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. B. Davis, in Shelbyville. She was over 78 years of age, and was stricken with paralysis. She was a long time resident of this county and well known to the early citizens. It will be remembered that her son, Major George Eakle was injured and died in Arizona about a year ago. Henry Eakle of Monroe City, attended the funeral. Her remains were laid to rest in the Masonic cemetery at Shelbyville. Rev. Todd officiating.
