FUNERAL AND BURIAL HERE LAST THURSDAY Elizabeth Jane Harker was born in McBrison's Cove, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, October 4, 1850. She was the third child in a family of ten children born to G.M. and Nancy Knee Harker. She came with her parents to Epworth, Iowa, when about six years of age. When about ten years of age, she moved with her parents to Bremer County, Iowa where she grew to womanhood. On September 13, 1876, she was united in marriage to Geo. W. Horton at the home of Pastor Gibson, west of Nashua. They immediately set up their family life on the farm. To this union were born five children: Geo. D. Horton of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Minnie M. Bond, of Nashua, Iowa; Mrs. Emma T. Apple, of Clarksville, Iowa; Mrs. Laura T. Green, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Mrs. Mary H. Green, of Denver, Co. In 1904, she, with her husband and family moved from the farm, four miles southwest of Nashua, to their home in Nashua, where she resided until 1923; when she came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Emma T. Apple, in Clarksville, where, after a long siege of sickness she passed peacefully away on the afternoon of April 19, 1927. For about 38 years, Mrs. Horton has been a patient bearer of the discomforts of ill health, but through it all a patient, sweet and loveable character. Three brothers and sisters, five children (mentioned above), and nine grandchildren together with a host of other relatives and friends mourn the loss of a sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She felt keenly the loss of her husband in 1910, but as a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and as a faithful Christian of pioneer stock, having settled in Iowa in the early pioneer days, enduring much of its hardships, she has in her life and in her death beautifully demonstrated the glorious power of Christian faith. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at Peace." Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, Thursday afternoon, Rev. Will Kirwin of Fayette preaching the sermon and Rev. Campbell of Clarksville, and Rev. A. Raymond Grant of Nashua assisting in the service. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
