Description	:	Elizabeth graduated from Dora High School in Dora, Alabama in 1941. She then attended Judson College in Marion, Alabama, graduating with a degree in sociology and religious education. She served first as a Religious Education Director and Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church in Lincolnton, North Carolina. She moved to Greenwood in 1949 and became the First Baptist Church of Greenwood's first Religious Education Director. Read More	Elizabeth graduated from Dora High School in Dora, Alabama in 1941. She then attended Judson College in Marion, Alabama, graduating with a degree in sociology and religious education. She served first as a Religious Education Director and Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church in Lincolnton, North Carolina. She moved to Greenwood in 1949 and became the First Baptist Church of Greenwood's first Religious Education Director. She later studied at Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida and earned her Master's of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. She worked for Self Memorial Hospital for 6 years, worked 15 years with the Department of Social Services and was the County District Director for that agency for five years. She was head of the Department of Human Services at Piedmont Technical College, head of the Department of Health and Environmental Control and the first District Director of Social Work for the Upper Savannah Health District. On a state level, she was active in the South Carolina State Employees Association, serving on the executive board and was a board member of the Tri-County Steering Committee to organize the MCABBWOOD unit. On the national level, she served as a South Carolina representative and was president and secretary for the National Chapter NASW Southern Regional Institute. She received awards for Outstanding State Employee as well as Outstanding Retiree from the South Carolina Employee Association. In addition, she was a foundation member of the Piedmont Technical College Cornerstone Society, where in 2001, she and her husband were presented the President's Medallion. At the First Baptist Church of Greenwood she served as president of WMU and was a member of the Dement-Waldrep Circle and the Trinity Sunday School Class. She served as chairman of the Worship Committee, president of NGO and she was a member of the Chancel Choir, where she served as soloist for 60 years. Upon retiring from the Chancel Choir a few years ago, she joined the church's Sounds of Grace Choir. She met her husband in Greenwood and they married on March 17, 1951 at the First Baptist Church. She and her husband lived most of their married life in the "blue" house, across from Piedmont Technical College, which was the original homestead for her husband's family. Their acreage was used for many years as the site of the Greenwood July 4th fireworks. They had horses and raised black angus cattle. Family members were allowed to hunt for deer as well. They had no children, but were aunt and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
