Mrs Elizabeth Lipscomb Dead Grandson was Oscar Barr Lipscomb 120030591 Ninety-Six, May 5 - Mrs Elizabeth Orchard Lipscomb, widow of Col Thomas C Lipscomb of this place, died at her home here Friday night, after a gradual decline of several months. Mrs Lipscomb was a daughter of Professor William Henry Orchard, for many years professor of music in the Columbia Female College, and a granddaughter of the famous scholar and writer, Professor Isaac Orchard, of Queen's College, Oxford, England, whose "History of the Baptists" and other books made him famous in his day. She was born at Beech Island about 65 years ago and was educated at the celebrated Barhamville school, near Columbia. She lived in Columbia until her marriage to Col Lipscomb, 29 years ago, and the remainder of her life was spent in this town, where she was beloved by every one. Mrs Lipscomb was a woman of fine mental gifts and musical and literary discernment. She was the composer of the popular "Hampton's March." She was a devoted member of the Methodist church and a woman of wide charities and Christian virtues. She is survived by two children, Mrs Elliott Creighton McCants of Anderson and Mr William O Lipscomb of this place [Ninety-Six], as well as a sister, Mrs Genie Orchard Stovall of Atlanta, and three brothers, Messrs J J Orchard of Augusta and W E Orchard of Atlanta. [one brother was omitted, Maj Frank Belton Orchard, living in Augusta, Ga at the time of her death.] She also leaves a niece, Miss Helen Gleason of Atlanta, Ga.
