Born in Fredonia Township. Born February 16, 1894, in Fredonia township northwest of Remsen, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Moser, early settlers here. She was united in marriage to Nis Mortensen, also of Fredonia township, on February 17, 1920 and the couple farmed in the area for 32 years. They retired in Le Mars in 1952 and lived at 211 Frist St. SW. Mrs. Mortensen was widely known, was held in highest regard by her many friends as a true Christian woman, a devoted wife, mother and sister and a staunch friend to her many acquaintances. Survivors. Surviving are the widower and three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Fern) Bouma, Le Mars, Miss Lois Mortensen at home and Mrs. Lawrence (Joyce) Leafstedt, Alcester, S.D. There are two grandchildren, Karen and Donald Bouma. Other survivors are two sisters and three brothers. L.W. Friends may call at the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home in Le Mars today and at the Moeller funeral home in Remsen Friday. Mrs. Nis N. Mortensen, 63, of Le Mars died unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, after suffering a heart attack at the Lutheran hospital, Sioux City. She had undergone surgery at the hospital a week ago. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at S. Paul Evangelical and Lutheran church, Remsen, Rev. Paul Wuebben will officiate. Burial will be in the Le Mars city cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home, Remsen. Elizabeth Louise Moser was born Feb. 16, 1894, in Fredonia township, the daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth Baumgartner Moser. She was married to Nis N. Mortensen Feb. 17, 1920, at St. Paul's church Remsen. The couple farmed for 32 years in Fredonia township until retiring and moving to Le Mars in 1952. Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Fern) Bouma of Le Mars, Miss Lois Mortensen at home and Mrs. Lawrence (Joyce) Leafstedt of Alcester, S.D.; two grandchildren, Karen and Donald Bouma; three brothers and two sisters, L.W. Moser of Newberg, Ore., Ernest Moser of Rin River, Minn., Mrs. Charlie (Emma) Dornbusch of Milbank, S.D., Mrs. Andrew (Mary) Juhl and Efford Moser, both of Le Mars, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother, Sarah, Ella, Louisa, and Albert.
