Description	:	The death of Miss Elizabeth M. Bergan, 85 occurred Sunday, April 22, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Harold Conley near Elkport. She had been in ill health for some time. Born September 12, 1876, in Highland township, she was the youngest of a family of eight children born to Patrick Bergan and Elizabeth Scully Bergan. She attended St. Joseph's school in Elkader. Later, she and her brother,... Read More	The death of Miss Elizabeth M. Bergan, 85 occurred Sunday, April 22, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Harold Conley near Elkport. She had been in ill health for some time. Born September 12, 1876, in Highland township, she was the youngest of a family of eight children born to Patrick Bergan and Elizabeth Scully Bergan. She attended St. Joseph's school in Elkader. When a young woman, the family moved near Volga city. For a time, she made her home with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Bergan, on a farm west of town. Later, she and her brother, James Bergan, moved to town. After John's death in 1932, she continued to live here. She served as housekeeper at the Catholic rectory during the pastorate of Rev. Father D.T. Noonan. In 1950, when Father Noonan was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Howard County, Miss Bergan retired from housekeeping. When her health started to fail, she made her home with her nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. James Boland. The past year and a half, she made her home with her niece, Mrs. Harold Conley and husband near Elkport. Miss Bergan was a member of the Sacred Heart church, the Rosary society, Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, the Apostleship of Prayer, St. Joseph's Union and other religious organizations. Funeral services were held Wednesday from the McTaggart funeral chapel in Elkader to Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Conrad R. Schallau, pastor, was celebrant of the Requiem High Mass at 10 a.m. The Rev. Father D.T. Noonan of Lourdes was present in the sanctuary. Casket bearers were Loy Shea, Dan Scully, Raphael Orr, Andy Cox, Harry Rinkert and Willard Crandall. Burial was in the church cemtery. She was the last member of five boys and three girls in the Bergan family. Surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins. Among the relatives and friends present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Boland, Mr. and Mrs. Raphael Boland, Cedar Rapids, Leo Boland, Leo Keleher, Leo Roach, Mrs. Adolph Benson, Mrs. Martin Minihan, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bergan and family, Mrs. Martha White, Elkader; Mrs. John Wiley, Littleport; Agnes Flaherty, Mrs. Asa White, Mr. and Mrs. R. Berns, Mrs. Herman Hakert and daughter, Garber, Wm Corbett, Bernadette Corkery, Wadena; Tony Chihak, Elma; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bergan, Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Conley, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Conley and John Boland, Elkport.
