Description	:	Elizabeth Mary Haken was born Oct. 19, 1923 to Lester and Lena (Schoon) Parkhurst in Little Rock, IA. She graduated from Little Rock High School in 1941 and Swedish School of Nursing in 1945. Elizabeth worked as an RN for many years at the hospital in Worthington, MN and was also hired for private-duty by many families in and around Sibley, Little Rock and Worthington. She graduated from Little Rock High School in 1941 and Swedish School of Nursing in 1945. Elizabeth worked as an RN for many years at the hospital in Worthington, MN and was also hired for private-duty by many families in and around Sibley, Little Rock and Worthington. On March 21, 1963 she was united in marriage to Menno H. Haken in a double-wedding ceremony in Sheldon, Iowa. Also married were their friends LaVonne Harms and Rev. Albert Van Dyk. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Henry Schoon, a cousin of Elizabeth. Menno and Elizabeth settled on a farm four miles west of Bigelow, MN and resided there until moving to their home in Sibley, IA in 1997. That same year, Menno entered Country View Manor in Sibley suffering from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and passed-away there 3 years later. Elizabeth continued living in Sibley with her son Clark until Feb. 2017. She suffered a heart attack and was recovering in Country View Manor when she died. She leaves to cherish her memory sons; Clark, of Sibley, and Grant from Ozark, AL, two grandchildren; Henry and Christina Haken of Enterprise, AL, sisters-in-law: Jennie Schram, Inez Haken, Gertrud Willemssen, brother-in law: Roger Sterler and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Elizabeth in death were her parents; her beloved husband Menno and her brother Tedd Parkhurst of Casa Grande, AZ. Elizabeth was a respected, active member of First Reformed Church in Sibley. She will be remembered as a woman of faith and integrity by her family, friends and all who were blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers family wish memorials to be directed to ATLAS of Osceola County.
