He had been ill for three years and a half, gradually failing until the end came, when he was walking in his garden last Monday. [Husband's Obituary] Tyrrell - One of Lamoni's best citizens passed away on November 8, 1909. He had been ill for three years and a half, gradually failing until the end came, when he was walking in his garden last Monday. He had said a day or two before that he was nearly through, and expected to go soon. Mr. Alexander Hamilton Tyrrell was born September 15, 1834, at Manlius, Onandago county, New York. He was married to Miss Elizabeth M. Thompson on May 7, 1858. Two children were born to them, a son dying in infancy and the daughter living to womanhood, now Mrs. George Johnson of Lamoni. Mr. and Mrs. Tyrrell removed from New York to Van Buren county, Michigan in 1865, and for years they were near neighbors to Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Clum, until they came to Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Tyrrell arrived in Lamoni in September 1884 - twenty-five years ago, and they have been numbered with our best people. Although Mr. Tyrrell made no profession of religion, yet he had the basis of the truest and best - that of character for honesty, integrity and just dealing in all his business affairs and personal associations. He was also kind, obliging and tender-hearted, willing to help those who were in need, and to do good to all. His age at death was 75 years, 1 month and 25 days. In March, 1906?, he was taken with heart weakness and the dropsy, also later with the rheumatism, from all of which he suffered much. The funeral was held at the house, and the attendance was large. Elder H. A. Stebbins preached the sermon and Elder A. S. Cochran assisted in the service.
