Wright Gaffney, SC - - Elizabeth Mason Wright, 87, of Gaffney left her earthly family on Thursday, January 6, 2011 to join her Lord and heavenly family. For the past month she has been a resident of Magnolias of Gaffney. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late James Russell Mason and Martha (Mattie) Sarratt Mason. She was the widow of James Thomas Wright, her loving husband of 58 years. She was also predeceased by brothers James Mariel Mason, Broadus Dean Mason, Sr., and Hugh Edwin Mason. Elizabeth was a lifelong member of Mount Ararat Baptist Church of Gaffney where she faithfully served in various capacities through the years. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School of the Class of 1939. She worked in textiles at Limestone Manufacturing and retired from Oxford Industries. For twenty years she was the bookkeeper and office manager for Wright's Floor Covering. Elizabeth and her husband enjoyed many years of travel both nationally and internationally. She was also an avid walker with her husband and most recently with close friends. Elizabeth was a forty-two year breast cancer survivor and led the 2009 Relay for Life survivor lap. She enjoyed singing with the Amazing Grace Singers of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church of Gaffney, was a member of the Young at Heart of First Baptist Church of Gaffney, and also a member of the Red Hat Club of Gaffney. Elizabeth is survived by a son, Tommy R. Wright and wife, Sharon of Gaffney and a daughter, Teresa Cook and husband WB of Gaffney. She is also survived by sisters Edith Smarr of Gastonia, North Carolina and Lucy Turner and husband, Joe of Gaffney. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Laura Beth Gallagher of Powdersville, SC, Russ Wright and wife, Shannon of Schenectady, New York, Matt Wright and wife, Christie of Piedmont, SC, John Wright of Gaffney, Brodie Cook and wife, Brooke of Gaffney, Brian Cook and wife, Karen of Lexington, SC, and Brice Cook and wife, Krystal of Gaffney. In addition she is survived by 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Mount Ararat Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 PM at the Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Wright and Rev. Joe Paul Turner. Interment will follow at Frederick Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorials be made to Mount Ararat Baptist Church "Carpet Fund", 412 McKown's Mountain Road, Gaffney, SC 29340 or Relay for Life of Cherokee County, 50 Peachview Boulevard, Gaffney, SC 29341.
