Fox was born in Athens county, Ohio, in the year 1837, married to Truman Sampson in 1858, died July 30th, 1919, in Wichita Kansas, and was buried in the Greenwood, Nebraska, cemetery July 31st 1919. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Greenwood. Nebraska, Reverend H. H. Harmon pastor of the First Christian church of Lincoln, officiating. Mrs. Sampson came to Nebraska, accompanied by her husband and little daughter, now Mrs Edwin Jeary of Lincoln, Nebraska, travelling from eastern Iowa in a prairie schooner drawn by two yoke of oxen, the popular way of travelling in those pioneer days. Crossing the Missouri river at Nebraska City, they arrived at Salt Creek early in May 1865 They settled on a homestead adjoining what is now known as the town of Greenwood. They lived on this land for 47 years. One of the incidents of their travelling across Iowa was that while travelling along near Ottumwa, Iowa, they were overtaken by a courier announcing the fact that on the night before, to wit April 14, 1865, President Lincoln had been assassinated in Washington. When they arrived in Ottumwa a few hours after, flags were floating at half mast and other evidence of sorrow were manifested at the death of the great emancipator.
