Her parents James and Catherine (Davidson) McKenzie were boh natives of Scotland and there they grew up, were educated, and married, emigrating from there to the United States in 1890 and locating in Jasper, Iowa to farm. Her parents James and Catherine (Davidson) McKenzie were boh natives of Scotland and there they grew up, were educated, and married, emigrating from there to the United States in 1890 and locating in Jasper, Iowa to farm. There were six children in the McKenzie family, Duncan, born Oct. 17,1886; James, Jr., born Dec. 3, 1887; Elizabeth; Anna, born June 10,1890; William, born Feb. 19, 1893; and Thomas, born April 10, 1895. On September 22, 1909, Elizabeth married Warren J. Dodd, son of Fred and Julia Mowry Dodd. The following year began with a double tragedy when Elizabeth's brother William died Jan. 10th and their father James died on Jan. 11th, 1910. Her mother remained on the home place with Duncan, Anna, and Thomas. Happy times followed with the birth of Elizabeth and Warren's daughter Ivagene on April 28, 1910. Elizabeth's brother James, Jr., graduated from the Chicago Veterinary College and returned to Baxter to set up practice. At the beginning of 1912 Warren and Elizabeth were expecting another baby to join their family but their happiness was not to continue. On Sept. 5th Elizabeth gave birth to a second daughter who either was stillborn or died of complications that same day. Elizabeth was also injured in the delivery and succumbed to death a few days later. The marker lists the date of death as Elizabeth's 24th birthday on Sept. 10. Other records list her birthday as Sept. 22 and the date of death as Sept. 18. Regardless, it was a difficult time for Warren, their 2-year-old daughter, and their families. On the birth certificate the baby is named Catherine Julia, a nod to both her grandmothers. The death certificate simply notes "Dodd". Warren remarried and Ivagene was raised by her father and stepmother for a time. Warren and his new wife had children and later moved from the Baxter area.
