Description	:	* Elizabeth was born 1 April 1829 in Virginia to John and Anna (Cornell). 1850, US census records show that Elizabeth, her parents, and her little brothers Thomas & Morgan, had moved to Rome, Athens, Ohio. * 18 Dec 1851, in Rome, Ohio, Elizabeth m. Robert Shields, son of John & Anna Shields, also of Rome. Elizabeth & Robert had just one child, Mary A, b. 1853 in Lee, Iowa, who appears w her parents in 1860 census for Cedar, Lee County, Iowa. Nothing else is know of Mary. Lewis family tradition is that Robert Shields died in Civil War.... Lewis family tradition is that Robert Shields died in Civil War. * If Elizabeth ever filed for widow's veteran benefits she never saw them because she married 2nd, in Henry County, Iowa, 9 Jan 1867, Rodman Lewis, son of Thomas & Diana (Deming) of Farmington, Iowa. Elizabeth & Rodman lived on his farm in Farmington, Iowa where they had two sons together, Walter & Carmine. Rodman's dau from his previous marriage, Lillie Lewis, lived w Elizabeth & Rodman, as did Rodman's father, Thomas. Thomas, a retired clock merchant, died 1880, aged 85. Rodman passed away 20 years later, aged 80. By this time only son Walter and step-dau Lillie lived w Lizzie, as she was called. * Elizabeth passed 23 July 1916 in Farmington, Iowa. Surviving her were son Walter of Farmington, Iowa, step-daughter Lillie Lewis of Farmington, Iowa, step-sons John Lewis of Monte Vista, Colorado, and William Lewis of Boulder, Colorado. * In the small cemetery behind the Rodman farm (Alfrey), Elizabeth shares a tall memorial marker w her 2nd husband, his 1st wife, Mary, and his father Thomas. To the left of the memorial are headstones for graves of Lewis family members Diane (Deming) -Rodman's mother, Elizabeth (Parker), and Mary (Alderman) - Rodman's 1st wife. To the right of the memorial are Thomas Lewis, Lillie Lewis & Walter Lewis. note:Lillie Lewis is 'informant' on Elizabeth's Iowa Death Certificate note: questions of Elizabeth's 1st husband, Robert Shields' military service are not helped by FAG (2993851) claiming Robert was 20 at time of 1863 enlistment, 38 years after his birth. note: Elizabeth may have been survived by Carmi Lewis: exploring 30 year-old Carmine Lewis in Burlington, Iowa, where he worked for the Mississippi Valley Telephone Company... later in Ramsey Minnesota, where in 1900 m. Maimie Sheible and later moving to Chicago (in 'telephone biz'). Age 62 his aunt Sarah (Parker) shares the Lewis houshold in Chicago. Age 72, (the year step-sister Lillie Lewis dies) Carmi is widowed, living in Chicago.
