Johnston was born in Greensburg, Decatur county, Ind., March 19, 1826 and died at her home west of Utica, Sunday, May 12, 1901, aged 75 years, 1 month, and 24 days. She retired to bed Friday evening, May 10th, feeling as well as usual, but before morning she had a stroke of paralysis, which left her unconscious until death came Sunday morning about 10 o'clock. Johnston was born in Greensburg, Decatur county, Ind., March 19, 1826 and died at her home west of Utica, Sunday, May 12, 1901, aged 75 years, 1 month, and 24 days. She retired to bed Friday evening, May 10th, feeling as well as usual, but before morning she had a stroke of paralysis, which left her unconscious until death came Sunday morning about 10 o'clock. She came to Iowa with her parents in 1846. She was united in marriage with Stephen B. Johnston, and resided on the old home place, three-fourths of a mile west of Utica until death. Her husband preceded her in death almost three years. Nine children were born to this union, two dying in infancy. Her seven remaining children were permitted to be with her during her brief illness and to assist in the last sad rites of a kind and loving mother. Her only sister Eliza has remained with her in her declining years. The funeral services were held at Miller chapel, conducted by her pastor Rev. Dickenson, of the Free Will Baptist church, and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. Her remains were laid to rest beside her husband, there to await the resurrection morn.
