Read More	Her obituary appeared in the Atchison Daily Globe on Friday, August 19th, 1938 on the front page: MOTHER OF 13 DIES/ Death Follows Premature Birth of 14th Child/ FUNERAL TO OCCUR SUNDAY/ Mrs. Henry Baker Succumbed After Being Stricken Violently Ill Yesterday/ The premature birth of her fourteenth child, and other complications, caused the death last night of Mrs. Henry M. Baker, 42 one of Atchison's most hightly esteemed residents. Her death occurred at 8:10 o'clock at the Atchison hospital, a short time after she had given birth to a son. The physician attending Mrs. Baker said the child had been dead for several hours prior to birth. Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Baker suddenly became violently ill at her home, 603 South Sixth street, and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. It is believed she had a perforated stomach, due to ulcer and that this condition was a contributing factor in the cause of her death. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon from St. Benedict's church. The rosary will be recited this evening at 8 o'clock at the Haroff & Buis service chapel. The body will be removed from the mortuary to the residence late tomorrow afternoon where the rosary will be recited again tomorrow evening at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetary. Monday Morning a requiem high mass for Mrs. Baker will be held at St. Benedict's church at 8 o'clock. Born and Reared Here. Catherine Elizabeth Baker was a daughter of the late Gearhart Seeger and Mrs.Seeger of Atchison. Her birth occurred here on April 14, 1890. She was reared to womanhood here and was educated at the old St. Louis college. November 15, 1917, she was united in marriage to Henry M. Baker at St. Benedict's church. The Rev. Gerard Heinz, O.S.B., performed the ceremony. Mr. Baker has been a machinist at the Locomotive Finisher Material Co. for more than 20 years. Mrs. Baker's untimely death is one of the most calamitous and tragical events ever to occur in this community and comes as a stunning blow to her many close friends. Too much cannot be said about Mrs. Baker's sterling qualities, especially as a mother, and her loss will be an irreparable one to her children. Her large family was Mrs. Baker's pride and joy and every single one of her 13 living children are a credit to her loving guidance and influence. Reporters for The Globe have often heard it said that the Baker children are among the best mannered and most polite in the city. They are always neat of appearance. Visitors to the Baker home have often remarked of the good behavior of the Baker children and the perfect order with which the home was conducted. The older children were trained to help care for the younger ones and harmony was maintained at all times. On Sundays Mr. Baker would attend mass at St. Benedict's with half of the children and at a later mass Mrs. Baker would accompany the other half. Mrs. Baker was a devout communicant of St. Benedict's and a member of the Altar society of the church. All of the Baker children are of the home.
