Obit: "THE PASSING OF ELIZABETH SELAK, PIONEER Mrs. Elizabeth Selak was born in Pilzen, Bohemia, November 19, 1826. She was married to Albert Selak in 1849, and immediately set out for America in a sailing vessel, landing in Baltimore, where they remained until 1850, and then settled at York, Pa.; where they resided until 1856. They removed to Moscow, Iowa, in 1856, where they reside until Mr. Selak's return from Colorado, where he was attracted in 1859 by the gold excitement. Early in 1860 Mrs. Selak with her family started overland for Colorado, arriving at Black Hawk, Gilpin county, May 1, of that year. The family continued to reside at Black Hawk until 1868, when they came to Georgetown, making this place their home until 1884, when they removed to Middle Park. after the death of Mr. Selak, Mrs. Selak made her home with her youngest son, Fred, on Grand River, and later at Grand Lake. Mrs. Selak was endowed with many excellent qualities typical of the early pioneers. She was ever ready to respond to a cry of distress, and was generous almost to a fault. Her home was ever a shelter to the distressed and her purse was always open to those in need. Her last days on earth were passed at St. Anthony's Hospital, Denver, where, she passed on during the closing hours of December 5th, 1912, and on Dec. 7th she was laid to rest in Alvarado cemetery, at Georgetown, aged 86 years and 16 days. Mrs. Selak is survived by two sons, Fred, of Grand Lake, and John, of Orillia, Canada, and two daughters, Mrs. H. H. Nash of Georgetown, and Mrs. Lillie Thomas of Humbodlt, Ariz.; thirteen grand children and five great grand children." Middle Park Times, December 13, 1912: "John Selak of Orilla (sic), Ontario, Canada, was visiting his brother Fred of Grand Lake last week. Both were called to Denver to the bedside of their mother who died at St. Anthony's Hospital Friday, Dec. 6th. In the absence of Fred Selak, George Bennett is "holding down" the west side store. George says he can "sell goods" with anybody."
