Stiles in Vol. II of his "Ancient Wethersfield" claims Capt. Joshua Robbins' wife Elizabeth was the dau. of Samuel Butler. This is thoroughly disproved by vital records, church baptism and probate records. Samuel Butler's dau. Elizabeth, b. Aug. 20, 1667 [Haddam, CT VRs], was the wife of Samuel Emmons. The children of Samuel Emmons and Elizabeth Butler can be traced via the Stephen Mix baptism records at the Wethersfield Church prior to 1704 and then between 1704 and 1710 in the East Haddam Church baptism records. Samuel Emmons and Elizabeth Butler maybe interred at East Haddam's Old Cove burying ground. In 1952 Donald Lines Jacobus (Hale, House) claimed Daniel Rose and wife Elizabeth Goodrich's dau. Elizabeth, b. of record Apr. 15, 1665 at Wethersfield, was the only Elizabeth that Jacobus could find who could have been the wife of Joshua Robbins. Jacobus based his conclusion on Daniel Rose's involvement in a 1696 lawsuit between Joshua Robbins and the town of Wethersfield coupled with many of the names of the children of Joshua Robbins being similar to the names of Elizabeth Rose's siblings. More recently, Elizabeth "Roose" of Hartford [alternately "Rouse" in Bond's Watertown] is claimed to be Daniel and Elizabeth (Goodrich) Rose's daughter, who married in 1687 in Sudbury, Mass., Obadiah Coolidge of Watertown, Mass., and became an ancestress of John Calvin Coolidge, 30th President of the U.S. On Dec. 24, 1680 at Wethersfield, Joshua Robbins married an unidentified Elizabeth by whom were born eight children of record in Wethersfield, Conn. Joshua Robbins was b. of record Oct. 21, 1652 at Wethersfield and d. testate Dec. 15, 1738, Æ 87. His will dated eight years earlier on Mar. 26, 1730 left multiple provisions for his wife Elizabeth naming her one of the Will's executors.
