Read More	Pioneer Woman Succumbs After Brief Illness Mrs. Elizabeth Carel, Came Here As Bride Forty-Nine Years Ago Death claimed Mrs. Elizabeth Carel, 81, well known pioneer of Plymouth County, at her home 501 Central Avenue SW., in this city, Sunday morning. Mrs. Carel suffered a stroke Friday evening, and never rallied. Elizabeth Toomey was born May 1, 1854, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Toomey, early settlers in Platteville, Wis., where grew up and was educated. When a young woman she operated dressmaking shop in Platteville, Wis., until her marriage on May 6, 1886, with William Carel, of Le Mars. Her husband, William Carel, was a prominent farmer in Lincoln Township for many years and in later years a resident of Le Mars and in later years a resident of Le Mars where he was active in community affairs. He preceded her in death January 15 of this year. Four children were born to them, a daughter, Florence died in infancy, and another daughter, Fannie, died at the age of 17 years. Mrs. Carel leaves to mourn her death one daughter, Mrs. P. A. Foley, of Akron, and one son, Leo M. Carel, of Kingsley, and three grandchildren, Maxine, Bonnie and Kenneth Carel. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. John Quinlan, of Spokane, Wash. Mrs. Carel enjoyed an extensive acquaintance in the community and was widely known especially among the old residents. Coming here as a bride fifty years ago, she mingled among the pioneers and was associated with the growth and development of the country. She was active in church and social work, a devout member of the Catholic church and its kindred societies. Mrs. Carel was a member of the Daughters of America, and the Ladies Aid of the church. She was a kindly neighbor, willing to assist in sickness and at other opportunities. Funeral Will Be Held Today The funeral will be held this morning at 9 o’clock, in St. James Church, Rev. Father L. J. Cooper officiating. Interment will be made in the family lot in St. Joseph Cemetery in Lincoln Township. Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel Friday, September 13, 1935 Le Mars, Iowa
