Johnson on 10 Jan 1863. Moses and Lizzie moved to McLean County IL ca 1864. They adhered strictly to the rules and disciplines of the Quaker movement. From son Ireatus, "On Saturdays my mother and sisters prepared meals to be eaten on Sunday. No cooking, dishwashing, bedmaking was ever done on the Sabbath. Johnson on 10 Jan 1863. Moses and Lizzie moved to McLean County IL ca 1864. They adhered strictly to the rules and disciplines of the Quaker movement. From son Ireatus, "On Saturdays my mother and sisters prepared meals to be eaten on Sunday. No cooking, dishwashing, bedmaking was ever done on the Sabbath. My father and the help did the chores on Saturday. Horses and mules were given enough fodder for two days. Our Sundays were a day of silence, no laughing, joking or excessive talking. After an early rising followed by a cold breakfast, we sat silently around the table while father read aloud from his Bible. We children sat quietly, exercising great control for we feared the wrathy punishment that was sure to be administered when, in moments of pent up energy, we sometimes forgot what the day was. We walked to the meeting house, mother in a flowing black dress and bonnet. Father, in a black suit and hat, led the way. After a cold lunch the young ones were given liberty to sit on the front porch. Running, playing games, laughing were strictly forbidden, for we were supposed to be meditating, and for the whole tortuous Sunday afternoon, that is what we did."
