Read More	OBIT 1: Grandma Morrow's Death—The older settlers of Mason County will be pained to learn of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Morrow, relict of Elder William M. Morrow, who came to Mason County in 1854 and settled on the donation claim, which included Oakland, the former county seat. Mrs. Morrow has been staying with her children in Shelton for the winter and was on the point of visiting her son at Scio, Oregon, when a slight disability coupled with old age, carried her away suddenly. Elizabeth Morrow as born in Hopkins County, Kentucky in 1814 being 80 years of age. She united with the regular Baptist Church when thirteen years old and has lived a long Christian life. She married Elder William Morrow in Jun 1833 in Gallatin County, Illinois and after twenty years of circuit work, the family came West, settling in Mason County where twelve years was spent and several children grown up as pioneers of the County, where they still remain. William and Elizabeth when removed to Linn County, Oregon, where the former died in 1883, after a long life of Christian work. Elizabeth Morrow has spent the intervening years living in pleasant ease with her children in various parts of the Northwest. She leaves the following children, as well as many descendents to mourn the loss of a kind and loving grandmother: George of Scio and Hon. J. L. Morrow of Heppner, Oregon; Mrs. J. H. McEwen of Ellensburg; Perry and Grundy Morrow and Mrs. W. D. Baldwin of Shelton. Another son, W. Thompson Morrow, died here in 1888. The McEwen's are also old resident of this county, having originally settled on the prairie which now bears that name. The funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church at 2 p.m. today (Friday), Rev. S. W. Beaven, officiating and a large number of the older friends of this pioneer woman will attend from all parts of the country to pay their last respects to her many good qualities as well as the local friends of the family. The remains will be interred in the Masonic Cemetery beside those of her son, William. In this brief review of her long and useful life, it is not possible to give her history, but suffice it to say that the Christian spirit of devotion and doing good to all, of this pioneer woman stands before us as a bright example of a long and useful life with its toiling years well spent and she has gone to her well earned reward. The Mason County Journal, March 16, 1894 OBIT 2: After a well spent life and at the ripe age of 80 years, Grandma Elizabeth Morrow, of this place, laid herself down to rest on last Wednesday morning at 6:30 o'clock, after an illness of but a few hours. On Tuesday at noon she ate dinner with the family of her son-in-law, W. D. Baldwin, with whom she has been living for some time, apparently as well as ever, but about 4 o'clock in the afternoon she was taken with cramps in the stomach from which she suffered considerably and heroically nearly all night. Towards morning she grew easier and finally at the hour mentioned, her breathing became gradually lighter until it ceased altogether, and dear old grandma's spirit was with the master who gave it [March 13, 1894]. She had been for some time contemplating visiting her son George, at Scio, Oregon, and was just about ready to go, but was waiting for her son Perry who was to go with her. Grandma Elizabeth Morrow as born in Hopkins County, Kentucky, in 1814, and was therefore at the time of her death 80 years of age. At the age of 13 she joined the Regular Baptist Church of which she has been a devoted member up to the hour of her death. (From the relatives of the deceased we have obtained a copy of the Baptist "Signs of the Times," of Middletown, N. Y., from which we copy the following, written by the late husband of the subject of this article.) "On the first Sunday in June, 1833, Miss Elizabeth Wyatt and myself were married by Elder Wm. Gholston of the Regular Baptist Church, my wife also being a member of the Gun Prairie Church, in Franklin County, Ill. We moved to Iowa in 1835, and settled in Mount Pleasant, Henry County, being among the first settlers there, and were in the constitution of Big Creek Church of Old School Baptists, now called Mount Pleasant Church, where on the first Saturday in July, 1839, I was ordained to the work of the gospel ministry by the authority of Big Creek Church, by Elders Micajah B. Rowland, Thomas Howel, Samuel Hutton and James L. Gilmore. We afterwards moved to Mahaska County in the same state, and were in the constitution of the Big Grove Church, where we remained until 1854, when we came to Washington Territory, and located in Oakland in Mason County, where there was not then any church of Regular Baptists." At this point his own account terminates. What follows is from information obtained from his bereaved companion: "We resided about twelve years in Washington Territory, and then removed to Scio, Linn County, Oregon and became members of Bethel Church in the same county which we left to be in the constitution of Scio Church of Old School Baptists, in 1873 where his standing remained until his Lord and Master called him from this world of many changes to his eternal home." With her husband, Elizabeth Morrow settled on their donation claim on the site which afterward became Oakland in 1854 and has lived here and in Oregon ever since. She leaves the following sons and daughters to mourn the loss of one of the best of good mothers: F. G. [Felix Grundy] and Perry Morrow and Mrs. W. D. Baldwin [Phebe] of this place, George Morrow of Scio, and J. L. Morrow of Heppner, Oregon, and Mrs. J. H. McEwen, of Ellensburg, besides a large number of grand and great grandchildren. The funeral took place at the First Baptist Church yesterday at 1 o'clock p.m., Rev. Mr. Beaven having come to officiate at the ceremonies. A large number of sorrowing friends from town and county were present and mingled their tears with those of the bereaved relatives. She now rests in the Masonic Cemetery [Shelton Cemetery] by the side of the remains of her deceased son, William. In her death, a life has gone out which has made the world better and brighter for its presence here, and no better eulogy could be uttered than to say, no one ever knew her but to respect and love her. Death, indeed plucked a shining mark when it took Grandma Morrow to a better world.
