Death came to Mrs. Owen, the widow of the late William [Henry] Owen earlier Monday following an illness of about three months. She had been bedfast about 30 days. Mrs. Owen was past 85 and counted Seymour her home for more than 60 years. Since 1950, following the death of Mrs. Owen late in 1948, Mrs. Owen had lived in Newton. She was born in Lee County, moved with her parents to Promise City during her childhood and was married [Aug. 23, 1888 in Corydon, Iowa]. The Owens lived on a farm near Seymour until 1911, then moved into town. Mrs. Owen had been an active and longtime member of the P.E.O. and Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by five children, Mrs. Andrews, Earnest Owen of Siloam Springs, Ark., who was unable to attend the funeral because of ill health, Carl and Everett of Tulsa, Okla., and W. Harold of Des Moines. Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. Elvin Owen of Seymour is a brother-in-law of Mrs. Owen and several nieces and nephews are also living. Funeral services were Wednesday at 1:30 at the Seymour Baptist church with the Rev. W. M. Cleeton officiating. Burial was in Southlawn Cemetery. Unknown newspaper, January 1954
