Popejoy was born October 27, 1846 and passed away October 6, 1916, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 9 days. She was married to George W. Hiser October 27, 1864. She was born on her father's farm two miles south of Lexington and ever since her marriage she has resided in Lexington, so that her entire life has been spent in this township. Mrs. Hiser loved her home and was a great lover of children. Wherever she met a child no matter how poor and ragged, she had the same kind word as for those better situated. She was very much interested in the homes for the poor and unfortunate children and was an annual contributor to the Baby Fold, in Normal, the Council Bluffs children's home and a Chicago home for children. She had been a member of the Methodist church for over fifty years and was deeply interested in all departments of her church work. She had been a member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union since its inception and until the last year, was always found in her place at the meetings. Two years ago the twenty-seventh of this month, Mrs. Hiser and her husband celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. At that time the dreaded disease (hardening of the arteries) which ended her life, was creeping over her body. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two sons, C.L. Hiser, of Leslie, Mich., and O.L. Hiser, of Lexington; two daughters-in law, four grandchildren, an aged father, John Popejoy, of this city; one sister, Mrs. Ida Ambrose, of Maryville, Mo.; two brothers, Peter Popejoy, of near Lexington, and E.G. Popejoy, of Des Moines, Iowa; besides a host of more distant relatives and friends. Private funeral services were conducted from the home at 3 p.m. Sunday, the family, the relatives and members of the W.C.T.U. being present. Rev. R.T. Ballew, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the services. At Mrs. Hiser's request, the music for the service was furnished by the victrola, Lead Kindly Light, Rock of Ages and Nearer My God To Thee, bheing the selections used. The two sons and four grandsons acted as pallbearers. The body was laid to rest in the Lexington cemetery. Those from a distance who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Hiser and son, George Blair, of Leslie, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. John Popejoy and family of Bloomington and Mrs. Mae Philips, of Louisville, Ark.
