February 15, 1918 FATALLY STRICKEN Coming out of the post office at about 4:35 yesterday afternoon, Ella Welding dropped in a sinking fall to the sidewalk. She was immediately carried into Dr. Summer's office but before a physician could be summoned she was beyond all earthly help. Miss Welding has been ailing with a weak heart for some time and it is supposed that is was due to heart failure that she fell and that the shock of the fall may have contributed towards her death. February 22, 1918 LIFES'S JOURNEY ENDED Miss Ella Welding, whose sudden death on Feb. 14 was chronicled in these columns last week was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.John Welding, of this city. She was born in West Point on May 4, 1896 and was at the time of her death twenty-one years, nine months and ten days of age. She was reared in this city, attended the Catholic and public schools and was confirmed in the Catholic faith. For the last five years she was employed as operator in the telephone office and through her pleasing manners and courteous treatment had gained the respect of all who had dealings with her. From childhood on she suffered from a weak heart and which eventually caused her death. She is survived by her grief stricken parents and two brother and three sisters: Herman Welding of Albion, Edward Welding at Camp McArthur, Texas, Mrs. Ed Brumm and Mrs.Grover Nitz, West Point and Mrs. Joseph Liekhus of Cedar Rapids, Nebr. All were present for the funeral. The loss of Miss Welding is deeply deplored by everyone who knew her and the sympathy of this entire community goes out to the bereaved ones left behind. May the blow be softened to them and may they feel the consolation that in life their daughter and sister filled her station with honor, not only to herself but to her parents and her associates as well. Funeral services were held on Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock, Rev. Fr. Peitz officiating. Interment is St. Michael's Cemetery.
