Ella's family prefers memorials to the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center, Box 40, Eureka, SD 57437 or to Zion American Lutheran Church, Box 546, Eureka, SD 57437. Ella Viola Zimmerman, daughter of Mathilda (Lutz) and Gottlieb Zimmerman, was born in Campbell County on May 29, 1928. She received her formal education at the Artas Public School and then was employed four years at the Artas Grocery Store. Ella married Walter A. Holzwarth at the Artas Baptist church on October 26, 1947. They settled in Eureka where Walter managed the Eureka Equity for 30 years. Over that time, Ella was employed as a clerk at the Eureka Hardware, Gambles Store, Equity Farm Store, the Jack and Jill Store, and the Red Owl Store. In 1980, they moved to Gregory, SD where Walter was employed as general manager of the Farmers Co-op Association of Dallas, SD. In 2002, they returned to Eureka. Walter died February 2, 2005. Ella continued living in Eureka and in July 2011, moved to the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center. The past two months, she lived at Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Ella belonged to the Zion American Lutheran Church in Eureka and the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA). She also belonged to the Eureka Red Hatters and the Eureka Senior Center. A favorite pastime of Ella's was going out for coffee with her friends. She was preceded in death by her father on April 27, 1975, her mother on November 14, 1982, her husband, and one brother (Floyd Zimmerman). Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka, is in charge of arrangements.
