Mrs. Praeuner died Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Community Pride in Battle Creek. --- Ella was born on Oct. 9, 1915, on the family farm south of Battle Creek, the daughter of John and Augusta (Perkuhn) Zohner. She was baptized on Nov. 15, 1915, and confirmed on May 5, 1929, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Battle Creek Heights, where she attended school. On Oct. 1, 1933, Ella married Arthur Praeuner at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Battle Creek Heights. The couple farmed south of Battle Creek. Ella was active at St. Peter's and at St. Matthew's in Meadow Grove. She sang in the choirs and was a member in the ladies aid and Dorcas. She taught Sunday school at St. Matthew's. Following their retirement in 1979, they moved into Battle Creek. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, sang in the choir and was in Dorcas. Later, in November of 1993, she moved to Norfolk and became a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Tabitha Group and Lutheran Layman's League. For 50 years, Ella volunteered at the Lutheran Hospital and Faith Regional Health Services. Ella is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Donna O'Brien of Bozeman, Mont., Judy and Al Swanson of Kansas City, Mo., and Bonnie and Jerrell Dolesh of Tilden; nine grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Doris Smith of Battle Creek. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Milan; four brothers and two sisters. (Norfolk Daily News May 19, 2011)
