Description	:	NELSON 1911 - 2007 Ellen Cahoon Nelson, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7 at the age of 96. She lived a life of love and service. Ellen was born on September 20, 1911, to George and Louise Cahoon. She had a happy childhood on a ranch in Leavitt, Alberta, with 7 brothers, and 1 sister. Read More	NELSON 1911 - 2007 Ellen Cahoon Nelson, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7 at the age of 96. She lived a life of love and service. Ellen was born on September 20, 1911, to George and Louise Cahoon. She had a happy childhood on a ranch in Leavitt, Alberta, with 7 brothers, and 1 sister. Working on the farm, in the garden, or playing music together in their â€œCahoon Orchestraâ€ were some of the activities they enjoyed together and that helped shape Ellen into the talented and hard-working woman she became. Following high school, Ellen became a school teacher. Working as a teacher helped to provide the opportunity for her brothers to obtain their education, serve in their church, and survive the war years. By the time she retired, Ellen taught for 20 years. While Ellen was teaching school, she met her husband, Farrell Nelson. They dated, then both of them went on missions for the LDS church, and following their return, were married in the Cardston temple. They lived their entire married life in Stirling Alberta, and had 3 children â€" Grant, Brian, and Rita Joy. Brian and Rita were born with downâ€™s syndrome, which presented a unique challenge for Ellen, but these two children have been able to accomplish great things because of Ellenâ€™s patience and love for them. Ellen and Farrell were known throughout southern Alberta for their musical ability. Farrell sang, and Ellen played the piano and accordion. Also, in their retirement years, they served a mission together, in Florida. Ellen became a treasured grandmother to Grant and his wife, Connieâ€™s, eight children. Living nearby made it possible for sleepovers, piano practices, family dinners, and visits. Great-grandchildren knew â€œGrandma Ellenâ€ very well, and loved spending time with her. She was a perfect example and mentor. Ellen is survived by her children, Grant (Connie) Nelson, and Rita Nelson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeff (Angie) Nelson, Lisa (Chad) Nelson, Kristi (Darren) Mazutinec, Jimmy (Patti) Nelson, Roxanne (Jared) Heggie, Cindy (Josh) Smith, Kevin (Kaleigh) Nelson, Shawn Nelson, and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 11 at 11:00 am at the LDS church in Stirling, Alberta. Friends may meet the family prior to the service from 9:30â€"10:30 am.
