ELLEN AMELIA RASH Funeral services for the late Mrs. Ellen Amelia Rash were held at the M.E. Church Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. Henry Hickman. Music for the services was provided by Floyd Hickman and daughter, with Mrs. Jesse May at the piano. Mrs. Rash had lived in this locality since 1851 and a large number of her old friends and neighbors were among those who came to pay their last respects at this time. Burial was in the Union cemetery. The pall bearers were Solon Rash, Henry Rash, Arthur Rash, Clifford Rash, Henry Williams and Warren Hammer. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Fred Rash, his son, Lewis and wife and daughter, Jennie from Amherst, Ohio, Mrs. E.O. [Grace Rash] Bunker of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Rash from Laurens, Iowa, Mrs. Irene Johnson and Mrs. Letta Nost from Libon, Iowa. The following obituary was read at the service: Ellen Amelia Negus was born Sept. 29, 1846 in Broom Co., New York, but when 3 years of age the family moved by wagon to Cane Co., Ill. where they lived until she was 8 years old. Then came by wagon to Iowa where the father entered 160 acres of prairie land from the government, and built a log cabin. This homestead is the Melvin Rash farm on Honey Creek. In this neighborhood she grew to womanhood and in 1866 was united in marriage to Watson Rash. Eleven children were born to this union, 7 of which have preceded her to the eternal home. She is survived by her four children, Lee of Alexander, Minn.; Fred of Amherst, Ohio; Mrs. E.O. [Grace Rash] Bunker of Des Moines; and Harry of Union; and one sister, Mrs. Savilla Ackerson of Union, also 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. Rash was a Christian woman and at the time of her death was a member of the Methodist church in Union. She was a kind and loving mother. She died, trusting in her Savior, September 16, 1925, having lived 78 years, 11 months and 16 days. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Friday at 2:00 P.M. Interment was made in the Union cemetery. Children of WILLIAM RASH and ELLEN NEGUS are: i. SHERMAN RASH, b. Abt. 1868. ii. ABIGAIL ANN RASH, b. Aug. 28, 1870; d. Oct. 7, 1900. iii. LEE WILLARD RASH, b. Oct. 12 1873 in Iowa, d. Jan. 16, 1951 in Minnesota. iv. MARY RASH b. 1874 v. FREDERICK LUCIEN RASH, b. March 29, 1875 Iowa, d. June 24, 1967, Norwalk, Ohio. vi. JOHN EDDIE RASH, b. 1878. vii. MARGARET “Maggie” RASH, b. 1880 Johnson Co. Tenn. viii. GRACE R. RASH, b. Feb. 23, 1882 Iowa, d. Oct. 14, 1975 Placer, Calif. ix. GERTRUDE RASH, b. abt 1884 x.
