Description	:	CENTRAL CITY — Ellen Ann Campbell, 82, of Central City died Friday, July 14, 2017, at Cottonwood Estates in Central City. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Presbyterian Church in Central City, with the Rev. Doug McHargue officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements. Ellen Ann Jacobsen was born June 30, 1935, in St. Paul to Thorvald and Alice (Cain) Jacobsen. Ellen grew up in the St. Paul area, attending grade school at the Bunker Hill Country School, as well as attending St. Paul High School. Following her graduation, Ellen taught country school for one year. She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and graduated with a home economics degree. While in college, she lived in Love Hall on East Campus. She worked at the State Game Lodge in the Black Hills of South Dakota. After graduation she taught at Fullerton and Central City. On June 22, 1958, Duane Campbell and Ellen Jacobsen were united in marriage in St. Paul. After she had children, she stayed home to raise them. Once the children were a little older, she began working for Meyer Electric, and eventually she and Duane bought the business and changed the name to Campbell-Mathis TV and Appliance. She worked there until the late 1970s, when she became the Merrick County health director, as well as an agent for Ozark Financial Services. For many years — and until she wasn’t able to drive any longer — Ellen was a lay minister for many churches, including those in Edgar, St. Paul and Central City and for Tabitha Hospice. Ellen had many hobbies; she enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden and was active in showing her produce at the county and state fairs annually. She was an avid reader and a member of the Central Nebraska Writers Group. She accompanied her children’s band trips, to Kansas City’s World’s of Fun and the Black Hills. She enjoyed oil painting, charcoal drawing and birdwatching, and was a cat lover. She enjoyed writing many articles for the local newspapers and other publications. She was very proud of her Danish heritage and enjoyed researching her family’s genealogy. Her greatest love was raising her children and spending time with them, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ellen was a lifelong member of the United Presbyterian Church in St. Paul and Central City and played in the bell choir. She was a member of P.E.O. and was a 4-H leader for more than 30 years. Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, William and Melanie Campbell of Central City, Rex Campbell of Central City and Karen Campbell and Roger Peden of the United Kingdom; her siblings and their spouses, Margaret Kendall, Evelyn and Bill Winnegar and Helen and Leon Page; a brother-in-law, Dale Campbell; her grandchildren, Kelly Anne Campbell, Eric Campbell, Cassie (Arturo) Pulido, Zachary Cunnigham, and Cortney Cunningham and her fiancé Dean Shurter; her great-grandchildren, Madison Campbell, Simon Pulido, Matthew Pulido and Emery Shurter, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane; and two brothers, Lawrence Jacobsen and Tom Jacobsen.
