The family will receive friends for a time of food and fellowship following the committal service at the United Presbyterian Church. She was a daughter of Peter and Johanna (Olin) Benson. Ellen never married. She had four sisters: Anna Benson Eden, Hilma Benson Eden, Marie Benson and Esther Benson Calef, all whom preceded her in death. Ellen was a life long resident of Johnson County with the exception of a year and a half spent in Manchester, Iowa After graduating from High School in 1922, she remained on the farm for a time as she enjoyed gardening and helping with the chores. She had been a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Lone Tree. Later she was employed as a housekeeper for many families in Iowa City. She very much enjoyed working at Sorority Houses in Iowa City and in later years did babysitting. She lived in Iowa City until September 2002 when she moved to the Lone Tree Health Care Center. She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews as well as her great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews; and her two great great great nephews. She is survived by nieces and nephews: Charles II. Eden and his wife, Irmgard, of Fredericksburg, VA; Robert Eden; Florence Millsap and her husband, Kenneth; William D. Eden and his wife Delores; Betty Kirchner - all of Iowa City, IA; Marion Eden of Hills, IA; Lavon Kirkpatrick and her husband, David, of Houston, TX; Wendell Eden and wife, Betty, of Washington, IA; Beverly Felt and her husband, Donald, of Desert Hot Springs, CA; and Margaret Eden Reynolds and her husband, John, of Sun City, AZ. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, and her four sisters (listed above). Ellen dearly loved all of her family and friends. She wanted to honor their memory even though they are deceased.
