She was born in Union County, NC on September 7, 1928, a daughter of the late Mr. George Washington Medlin and Mrs. Beulah Aycock Medlin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Mrs. Daisy Price Medlin, her first husband, Mr. Ralph Dean Helms and her second husband, Mr. Britton Helms. She was also preceded in death by two brothers; Mr. J.W. Medlin of Lancaster, SC and Mr. Heath Medlin of Indian Trail, NC, one sister, Mrs. Joyce Hannah of Monroe, NC. Mrs. Medlin is survived by two sons, Mr. Danny Ray Helms and Mr. Allen Dean Helms of Monroe, NC, two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Diane Helms Simpson and Mrs. Teresa Lynn Helms both of Monroe, NC, one stepson, Mr. Lelan Helms of Monroe, NC, ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Mr. Andy Simpson, Mr. Kenny Simpson, Mr. Michael Helms, Mr. Shawn Davis, Mr. Richard Medlin, Mr. Gene Deese, Mr. Jeff Medlin, Mr. Brian Hinson, and Mr. Robby Funderburk. The family of Mrs. Helms will receive friends and relatives for visitation Tuesday night February 17, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Funeral services for Mrs. Helms will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Hillcrest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Don Lisk, Rev. Larry Harrison, and Rev. Dallas Pressly with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC. The family has suggested that memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110 and also to the Hillcrest Baptist Rest Home, 4402 Hillcrest Church Road, Monroe, NC 28110. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family of Mrs. Helms.
