When two years old she came with her parents to Ohio, settling on the farm one mile northwest from Hillsboro, where she lived for 89 years. August 30th, 1821, she was married to John H. Mitchell. To them were born eleven children, four of whom are still living, Mrs. Hern, Mrs. Wilson Miller, Mrs. Henry Duckwall, of Missouri, and Samuel Mitchell. She was the grand mother of thirty four children and great grandmother of twenty. Her early life antedated the advanced opportunities of the present, so that she had the full experience of early Ohio pioneer life. When a child her first schooling was had in the old log house that stood on Main street, where Mr. Spargur's store now stands, learning to write by tracing the letters with her fingers in the smooth sand in a box. When a child her father's home was one of the preaching places for the Methodist itinerants. Some time before 1830, she united with the Hillsboro Methodist Church, under Geo Moley. In 1862 her membership was transferred to the Christian Union Church; of which she was a member at death. During the 91 years of her life she had never been sick until ten years ago, when her thigh was broken by a fall. At the last she fell asleep as quietly as day fades into night. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Heber D. Ketcham, and the interment made in the family burying ground, near the old home.
