Ellen LaVerne Nagle was born on December 20, 1923 in Manvel, ND, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Murphy) Nagle. Hoverson – Nerby, 85, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away early Sunday morning, January 11, 2009 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Ellen LaVerne Nagle was born on December 20, 1923 in Manvel, ND, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Murphy) Nagle. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and graduated from Manvel High School. Ellen married Odin Hoverson on February 23, 1943. The couple made their home in Manvel where together they farmed and raised their eight children. Ellen was a member of the Manvel Women's Club and the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She was also a member of the St. Timothy's altar society in Manvel. Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and she fulfilled one of her life long dreams of visiting Ireland, her blessed homeland. Ellen was a kind woman who sincerely loved her family and friends. She will be sincerely missed as she had such a great gift of hospitality. On January 28, 1976, Odin Hoverson, the love of her life, passed away. She moved off the farm and into Grand Forks. She was a charter member of a new single's club where she met the second love of her life, Thomas D. Nerby. They were married on February 1, 1978 and made their home in Grand Forks. They enjoyed 31 years of marriage, many trips together and wintered in Mesa, Arizona. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; Children, Leona (Jim) Hutton, Maple Lake, MN, Stanley Hoverson, Manvel, ND, Susan Hoverson, Cave Creek, AZ, Steven (Mary) Hoverson, El Granada, CA, Loyd Hoverson, Park Rapids, MN, Carl (Sandy) Hoverson, Larimore, ND, Keith (Lynae) Hoverson, Manvel, ND, and Julie (Dave) Miller, Ardoch, ND; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. Step children, Cliff (Marsha) Nerby, Reynolds, ND, Lee Lawrence, Las Vegas, NV, Bonnie (Martin) McNamee, Grand Forks, ND, Dory (Roy) Coop, Grand Forks, ND, and Tommy Nerby, Mesa, AZ; 11 step grandchildren; 16 step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings; sisters, Kay Midstokke, Grand Forks, ND, Frances (Ray) Stadstad, Grand Forks, ND, Madalyn Bergerson, Fergus Falls, MN; a brother, Bill (Joyce) Nagle, Boring, OR. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Odin Hoverson; a brother, John Nagle; sisters, Rosella Goulet and Barbara Huot; daughter-in- law, Linda Hoverson; a grandson, Nathan Kamrowski; twin great-granddaughters, Samantha Faye Hutton and Jocelyn Jay Hutton. Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 15, 2009 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Gregory J. Norman - Norman Funeral Home, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for one hour before the Funeral Mass in the church on Thursday. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND, in the spring.
