They note Ellen had one son, William Crampton who d. Bantam 1896. They give no sources, so I cannot confirm. I note in 1870 Census Ellen Ravenscroft is living with the John Crampton family in Waterbury, CT, at age 19. Since Ellen is listed last and with a different surname from the rest of the family, it is possible/probable she is a domestic in the home. William Crampton is not listed in the household; it appears in 1870 he is living with the Steele family, also in Waterbury, and may be working as hired labor there. (Census records from those decades do not ask for info on relationship to head of household, so I am making assumptions based on customs of that era.) In any case, William and Ellen are not married yet as of the date of the 1870 Census, but William would have been the oldest son and only one of marriageable age (again, according to the customs), and the records put them both in Waterbury, and she in his parents household. Ellen was living in Litchfield, CT in 1860 at age 9 with her mother, Almira; father William is absent and may very well be the "Miner" who is listed as living in CA or died young, I did not try to look further for him. Suffice it to say, Ellen and her family were left without a head of household, so it would make sense that Ellen hire herself out as domestic help so as not to be a financial burden on her mother. My best guess would be Ellen and William married sometime betw 1870 and 1875, the year his father, Dea. Jonathan died, either in Waterbury where both of them were living at that time, or possibly in Litchfield, where her mother was living.
