Read More	From Nevada Evening Journal July 29, 1943 Mrs. Joseph Hines Dies Suddenly at Her Home In Ames Mrs. Joseph Hines of Ames, 74 years old, passed away at her home there at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday, July 28. She had been in her usual health, but had been a sufferer fro asthma for some time. Her condition was not considered serious. She succumbed very suddenly to a heart attack. Mrs. Hines had entertained her sister, Mrs. Mary Elmore and other friends from Nevada, she had called on her for visit during the morning. Ella May Griffin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Griffin, Story county pioneers of near Colo, was born February 7, 1869, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Joseph Hines in February, 1894. She is survived by her husband and six children. There were three daughters, Mrs. Melvin McGoon, of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. B. J. Groomes of Ams; Mrs. Harold Lee of Ames; and three sons, Victor, who is in the U. S. navy, and she has seen service in New Guinea, is now convalescing in a navy hospital in California, having contracted malaria fever while on duty. William and Joseph both live in Ames. Fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive her. She also leaves three sisters to mourn her death, Mrs. Mary Elmore of Nevada, Mrs. James Towne of Milo, and Mrs. Chris Jensen of Lake Crystal, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Hines lived in Nevada for several years. The family left here about 37 years ago. All but a short period of this time they have made their home in Ames. She was a member of Baptist church. Besides her won family, Mrs. Hines made a home for a number of homeless children which she reared to womanhood and manhood. She was a very devoted wife and mother and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at the Adams funeral home at Ames. Sunday afternoon, at 2:30 p. m. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery. C. E. Lookingbill will have charge of the services.
